Polokwane City Score 2-1 Win Over Richards Bay

Polokwane City’s 2026/27 Betway Premiership season got off to a hot start following their 2-1 victory over Richards Bay FC on Sunday, 2 August.

Playing at Umhlathuze Sports Stadium in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, Polokwane struck gold in the 18th minute, courtesy of a header from Ndamulelo Maphangule.

Hosts Richards Bay managed to keep the Limpopo outfit on their toes, preventing them from scoring any further in the first half.

Eventually, however, Polokwane picked up the pace in the second half, enabling them to score their second goal of the afternoon: Tidimalo Molokwane’s right-footed shot found the bottom left corner of the net in the 55th minute.

Despite the hosts’ attempt at a saving grace in the 69th minute – thanks to a Moses Mthembu-assisted header from Simphiwe Mcineka – Rise and Shine ultimately emerged victorious.

As a result of their resounding win, Polokwane City currently occupy third place on the Premier Soccer League rankings with three points – tying with first- and second-placed Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, respectively. As for Richards Bay, they’re sitting in 12th place with zero points.
